To mention, you can view the nicks in the current channel by typing /names. It'd be nice to link nicks similarly to what I suggested earlier. Would this possible solution solve your problem?

It would be nicer if you could see their avatars and have the possibility to click them and to whatever you want... as in the F9 screen

/names doesn't show you current channel users. I don't actually send this info to osu! at the moment, and wasn't planning on doing so until someone specifically asked.
I agree with this feature.
I don't know who is actually in the same channel as me.

yesterday i wanted to add someone to friends who i was playing in a room with. to find him in the whole list even in alphabetic order it took over 1 minute!
with this feature i couldve added him in like 5 seconds.

It's kind of annoying if you can't see users who speak your language but aren't shown in the Filter "Country" 'cause they aren't logged-in in your country.
