Sometimes I download work-in-progress/pending beatmaps and then the difficulty names get changed or difficulties are added/removed so I can't just "update to latest version" in the song index. osu!direct only seems to allow full downloads, though. It'd be nice to have the ability to just download the most recent .osu files for the beatmaps over osu!direct, without redownloading the mp3/video files.

peppy should be working on something like this with osz2.
yes osz2 will have native support for this.
There is a roundabout way to solving this in the meantime. Go into edit mode, create new difficulties if needed, name them to the latest names and update them.
