Im not sure how to explain this well :P

anyways im not sure if this is my computer or not, but after using the Editor for over an hour, my computers performance starts to drop and everything starts to go really slow and laggy. osu runs really slow and sometimes crashes or looses connection.

the only programs running was IE (osu! forum and google) and osu!

im not sure if you understand that since its in swedish ^

System specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon Dual Core 64 x2 2.6 GHz
RAM: 1GB
Video: Nvidia GeForce 7500LE (lol)
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2

I have no viruses.

this only started to happen recently, i cant remember after which update though.

EDIT: I can run osu for atleast 72 hours without getting any of this lagg as long as i dont enter the editor for a long amount of time.

Did you search?
yes i did search, and that has nothing to do with my problem (well maybe a little). i can run osu for 7 days without getting as much lag as i get from using the editor.

This happens to me too. After a bit (sometimes only a few minutes) the editor gets really slow and I have to exit and go back in to get back up to speed. *hits his laptop with a hammer*

That kind of memory usage should have no effect on performance? Besides you still have plenty of RAM free. Was that cpu usage while osu! was focused or not? I'm interested to know what the CPU was when it ran "good" compared to "slow". Also does it happen if you are doing nothing? And on all maps or some particular maps? No video or video or both?

This map has been deleted on the request of its creator. It is no longer available.

As descriptive as it gets. Temptation to delete post high.

Oh cool. Now I can tell you are using opengl. Does Gabi use opengl too? We might be on to something here (unfortunately I am not being sarcastic).
Torran
Irrelevant, Windows will complain for both dx and ogl.
My variable is actually virtual memory which I have disabled.

. . . with how much RAM?

ok so far i have tested 1 map, and i play with directx.

tested maps

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/8338 (no video, no flamelimiter , have yet to suffer from any lagg.)
^CPU usage while running osu normally (focused) was 7-12, CPU usage in editor was 50 (osu focused)

trying with video files now.

info on other maps i lagged on

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/8295 (no video, no framelimiter, lagg after about 1-3 hours)
http://osu.ppy.sh/s/5561 (Video, no framelimiter, lagg after about 1-3 hours)
^these 2 was the first two i experienced lagg on. i did not get the CPU

EDIT: While playing maps in solo mode, CPU usage is about 15-17

I've had problems with memory when playing maps with videos. Pagefiling is not an issue, since I have enough RAM (1gb is enough to avoid paging with this program), but there are still periodic performance jerks (typically a 1/4 second long freezeup every 10 seconds or so), which, based on the huge rate of memory consumption (typically +/- 2MB every second), I'd blame on garbage collections.

It seems collections are being done too infrequently with the ffmpeg wrapper.

It does return to normal after I exit the map, yes.

And a little speculation never hurts. :)

The general process is that osu! allocates several megs of RAM, then frees them all at once, all over the course of a couple of seconds. This is happening if and only if there's a video which is causing performance jerks.

Moskau is a strong culprit of this. The video there doesn't have many iframes.

I can see what you mean about the jumpy allocation. I have improved this in the latest test build. I'll also look at reducing overall memory consumption because it seems abnormally high at the moment (almost 3x what it should be when loading the video file).

i can confirm now that this happens in maps that has Storyboard effects.

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/8338 <--- causes loads of lagg after a while in the editor. it did not use to do this when the map had no SB

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/5561 <--- as far as i can remember this used to make me lagg after about an hour aswell. it has some SB in it.

On a side note (offtopic):
sometimes when my combo bursts pops up i get like a 200ms feeze and i break combo on maps. should i make a new topic for it? or should i just disable the combobursts from now (note this has nothing to do with this topic)

Not sure if this is related.

Sometimes, after 1/2 an hour of using the editor or so, the fps of the editor drops to 5, where the song skips etc. Rectifiable by taking the speed of the song down to 25%, then speeding it back up, where it'll be back to my usual 60 (I think?).
