For some reason the letter icon doesn't appear on one particular difficulty on one particular song, no matter what I do. I've tried beating the score, clearing the local scores, beating my top online score again, nothing. I realize you probably can't diagnose this without seeing one of my files, but I wouldn't know which one you need.

That wasn't clear from the OP because you were viewing local scores.
It appears to be caused by the "," in the difficulty name.
http://osu.ppy.sh/s/60 also has a problem with "[" in the name
Also, any beatmap with extended unicode characters (CJK or symbols), will also exhibit the same behavior.
Examples:

The local scores that are saved within the client probably got cleared or aren't there anymore. How come? That I don't know...
For some strange reason, Shichiten seems to be immune to this? I just checked mine and it shows. The rest of the maps mentioned do not show it however, same goes for DISCO★PRINCE (star-shape in the title)Gabi wrote:

Also, on my machine, Biidama does not cause this problem.
Biidama is fine for me, but Star Wolf is not. After months, I tried again, and my score was submitted on Star Wolf. However, the rank image still doesn't show on the difficulty. If yo notice, the "quick web access" button is also missing on the two difficulties. If you click on the easier difficulty, and then on one of the harder ones, the heart icon disappears too.
