Whenever I try to play a song in any mode, the program just shuts down immediately. The details say that the program tried to load a program with an incorrect format. Is there anything I can do to rectify this?
I can see the error you are getting. Open the osu! folder and delete d3dx9_31.dll, bass.dll and bass_fx.dll, then run osume.exe and let it download them again.
