Happens all the time for me and I can reproduce it as well.
1) Open a map in edit mode.
2) Press escape to exit edit mode.
3) On the "Do you wish to save?" prompt, press N on your keyboard for No.
You now exit edit mode and are on the song select screen. In the search field, you will see "nn" as an inputted search string.
