This is my first beatmap. Please let me know your thoughts.

This is an awesome chiptune by Souleye from the game VVVVVV from the soundtrack titled PPPPPP (yeah, I know) that I think translates well into this game.
Respectings to Shinde, Matma_Rex, Random Jibberish, Natteke_desu, and Gens for overall skin assistance/contributions!
Alarmable diff by al2e10.

Fixed gain on applause.mp3. It was way too loud compared to the rest of the song. Applied recent mods. Gave up on making easy. Guess it'll only be a two difficulty piece. Bleh.

Now, it's time to fix some overall things here... First of all, name Easy mode to Normal mode, Normal to Hard, and Hard to Insane...
Then, try to improve spacing along the easier modes... sometimes it isn't so clear as it appears, due to the song's particular rhythm... For this, try to see the AIMod function in Edit mode! (Just press Ctrl+Shift+A)

Easy changes done, though the with the spinner sound at 01:08:551, I changed it to a soft finish to go with the cymbal crash.

Well, considering the music is from a game called VVVVVV, I was trying to make as many Vs as possible. I can just turn that into a 'w' and get away with sticking with the theme still.

Hrm, I guess I'll have to make another difficulty after all. I feel bad making a map without an easy mode, considering I'm still freshly weaned off easy mode myself, hehe. Pfft, every time I try to make an easy that's not horridly boring, it's way too similar to Normal. I'll just leave it as the three, I guess.

Overall: Work on insane a bit. Make it look better. Right now its looks kinda messy. Try to make some patterns out of them. Also, fix up some of the hitsounds? They aren't very impressive :<

watch out for the green lines. if possible, move them half a beat earlier(except for the lines for Kiai mode)

cause if u click a beat ealier than the line, the sound would not be correct.

Thanks for the heads-up. I also found a few unneeded timing change points, along with Normal having all set to custom override (back when i didn't know how to change between the normal and soft sound set yet, heh). Appreciate it!

If I put three eighth notes right at the beginning like that, it would feel out of place. I tried to ramp up the difficulty as the player gets more accustomed to the song. Thanks, though.

Yeah, that's what i found difficult about this map - the melody line has a harder rhythm to feel than most songs, though if I kept things too basic, the map would be too boring. This is my attempt at keeping it somewhat interesting while not making it too difficult.

Thanks for the commentary - it very informative to illustrate to me if the maps I made were intuitive or not. I think a lot of the extra beats you wanted me to put in are more phantom beats that aren't actually in the line that was being followed, and though they do fit, the way I have hit sounds and spacing set up, the more direct translation of the music fits better to me.

Yet again, i find the slider velocity very slow for an Insane... well i got a suggestion that you could use speed ups to make it faster and more fun, ignore it if you want it slow but i think it will be far more fun this way

Well, that's it.
The main things that bugged me is the slow slider velocity on the higher difficulites and that it's pretty hard to follow allot of the time.

00:17:551 (3,4,5) - You could get easily fooled by the pattern there when you have to quickly jump to (5) Change to a > shape of beat.
00:54:837 (1,2,3) - Same comment as above, different pattern shape, Then again you could just find something to change up the tricky pattern.
00:57:729 (1,2,3,4,5) - Too clustery, space out a bit more so you can actually see 5 beats.
(Keep in mind about the 0.5x section)

I'll put things you MUST fix for it to be ranked in red, and important comments in bold. Everything else will probably tie in the 'things you should probably fix' category.

Remove the unused .osb file in the song folder and Full Reupload when you're done with everything. Add a spinner-background. This is what happens when you don't include all three items in a spinner skin. http://osu.ppy.sh/ss/5125

section-pass and section-fail look bad imo and I would suggest removing them. I can't say the spinner looks very good either. While skinning, even if you're going for a theme you should still be keeping playability in mind. The hitcircle/overlay and comboburst are fine though I guess.

01:28:265 (3) - Up one grid/Not spaced evenly.
02:27:408 (3) - Bad slider, reshape. You should also never have the slider end and start overlapped or nearly overlapped. It's confusing.
02:43:694 (3) - 1/4th later. White tick.
02:36:837 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) - Streams like this are iffy in a 'Hard' difficulty.
02:44:551 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) - ^^^ This one especially.


Insane
Overall Difficulty +1 and HP Drain +1/2
It's largely unplayable to me. The spacing, stacking, and positioning are very confusing at times.
Ex. 00:23:980 (1,2,3,4) -
00:45:194 (2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1) -
01:01:051 (6,7,8,9) -

A map's difficulty shouldn't lie in the ability to read it. The velocity/patterns themselves aren't hard to hit, just hard to know WHERE to be hitting and when. This ties in with the 'Song is 8-Bit no lyrics/offbeat' thing above.

General
The hitsounds weren't very well done, and a bit spammy in some parts. Other parts were okay. You want to make sure you don't overdo hitsounds. Having a clap/finish on every beat, etc. is a bad idea. I suggest re-doing them for the most part. This wasn't my main concern though at this stage.

I mapped around 30 seconds of a Hard+/Insane difficulty, perhaps you might want to take a look, it could give you ideas.

I think Normal and Hard should be fine after some more modding, and like I said asking someone to map an Insane might be a good idea. It's hard to test if a difficulty is fun when mapping if it's too hard for you to play.

Mods done. Insane removed. Thinking about working on an easy... we'll see. Last time I tried, it was either too hard or far too boring.
