When I try to start osu!, I get an Unhandled Exception error.

Attempting to update my client through osume doesn't help, because it says it's up to date.

I'm using:

Vista Home Premium 32-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.8ghz Dual Core)
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Try deleting your osu.dll and updating again.. seems like it is corrupt.
