I tried Undo, deleting notes, everything!

One way of doing it is to open the .osu file and under [Events] delete the line starting with 2.

I think if you place a circle in the break, you remove it.

You can right click on a break in the timeline to remove it - just like any other note. It will also be removed the second a not is placed inside the break.
