First, go to Song Setup -> Audio and add at least 1.5 seconds of lead-in time. Since you start the beats immediately, it's tough to see it coming without warning.

As for timing, I'm not particularly sure (as I'm rather new myself), but I think 160 BPM with an offset of 6,383 works pretty well.
