Hearing if two beats are together are quite difficult for some people. Is it possible to make a visual representation of the sound like the basic bar visualization for media players? Or better yet, would it be feasible to convert both the metronome and the song into a visual representation and have OSU compare the two automatically?

visual oscilliscope or waveform rendering doesn't work any better than the bars crossing the screen. you can't make an automatic calculation because the pc is at fault here. if you want to do it based on visual cues, then watch the bar expanding in the centre of the screen.
