When I select Play mode it gives me an error and after that if I try to start Osu again it gives the error at the beginning.
The error:
Input string was not in a correct format.
Void StringToNumber(System.String, System.Globalization.NumberStyles, NumberBuffer ByRef, System.Globalization.NumberFormatInfo, Boolean)

System specs.:
1,8GHz
1GB RAM
GeForce FX 5500 128MB
DirectX 9c
.NET Framework 2.0 Installed
FFDShow Installed

What to do?

Lucky enough we had this problem earlier this week, but it's still a bit hazy.
This error has something to do with a .osz file that you may have placed into the /songs directory.
You just placed the .osz file into the /songs directory right? Didn't rename the file to .osu or something different?

Best quick fix is to delete either all the songs from the /songs directory, or just the newest one you downloaded, then put the .osz file in the /songs directory again, then run the game.
Hope it works.

Unfortunately it didn't work, I deleted all files in my Songs folder and put them there again, but it gives the same error. I also tried renaming .osz files to .osu and when I did that I was able to get to the song select screen, but when I clicked the song name it displayed the same error + a longer error.

Definitely don't rename osz to osu! Its the worst thing you could do :D.

You could try renaming the osz to .zip, then manually extracting the contents to a new directory under songs.

I'm quite interested to find out why this error is happening, though. It basically means that it can't read the *extracted* osu files. When you place an osz file in the songs directory and click "play", it will extract the osz (and delete it), leaving you with a folder containing an mp3 and several osu files. Can you check this is happening? If you can see the osu files, try opening one in notepad and ensure that the contents is readable text.

Also a possibility that the downloaded .osz file wasn't downloaded completely, or got corrupted in the process :|

OK, I tried renaming .osz to .zip and extract them, but still the same error. When I try playing with .osz file I get the error, but it did extract the files(into a folder named _tmp :?) and deleted the .osz file. Also, all text in .osu files is readable.

Highly unlikely, because I downloaded 5 beatfiles and it's the same problem with all of them.

If you have msn could you please add me (p3ppy@msn.com), or join the IRC channel (#osu on irc.enterthegame.com)?

This seems to be something strange like a localization issue - probably easier to follow it up with some direct communication. Failing that, could you send me a screenshot of the error you get when the file is extracting? (the one that comes up after you go into play mode with the osz file). This would be most useful.

Since i have the same problem:

Do you get an error while the osz is extracting though? It would most probably be a different error message to this. Can you check in your songs folder as to whether the osz has extracted or if it is still in the _tmp directory?
Demicol
When i click on the Play button the game crashes and i get that error. The .osz file has been extracted into a _tmb folder that contains an MP3 and an .osu file, so it seems to have extracted just fine.

What version of windows and what locality are you running? Also which beatmap are you trying?

This is a really strange problem :(
Demicol
I have Windows XP. Umm.. Locality? I'm not quite sure i follow
[Edit]I tried Carmell Dansen - Carmell and U2 - Vertigo, and both cause the same problem.

What country do you live in? Are numbers where you live written using a slightly different format? For instance, the thousand separator, and decimal symbol.
Demicol
Finland. Different how? From America? According to my friend, americans use 32.10 instead of 32,10 like the rest of the world. Other than that, i don't know.

Ok! Hang around for 10 minutes - I'll have this one sorted.

Australia happens to be part of the "american" world, as do many other countries ;).

Please update to the latest build (b72) and try again. I can't test this so easily on my PC, so fingers crossed I got it all right.
Demicol
It works now. Thank you!
